How do i start a blog?

That was also the question that kept going thru my mind when I wanted to start a blog. After reading blog after blog and article after article I thought I knew what I needed to know but that wasn’t the case. I feel like with blogging you keep learning, exploring and growing. There is information eve-ry-where. I loved google but Pinterest was my best friend. ( still is tho) But to spare you some time searching for information, I will help you here. I will try to explain it as simple as possible. At the end of every step I put a question/ to do, so it will be clear what to do. So here ya go:

Step 1: Niche

‘’Niche’’ is your subject. So that’s what you are going to blog about. You can have 1 or multiple. I don’t suggest anything actually. I feel like its different for everybody. What might work for me, might maybe not work for you and otherwise. If you feel like doing 1 do it. Feel like multiple? Do it. You can always decide to change it in the end if you don’t like it or it’s not working the way you want it to.

Now, you can decide to blog about something that you have a lot of knowledge of or you can blog about something you don’t know anything about. I personally prefer the ‘’having knowledge of’’ but that is totally up to you! I DO encourage you to expand your horizon and read books, learn, and explore. So if you choose to blog about something you don’t know anything about, go for it! Invest in yourself you know?

Do: Ask yourself the question:

What do I like?
what do I know a lot about?
what do I want to learn about?

Step 2: Choosing a name

You can either choose a name that has something to do with your niche. Example:

You blog about Banana’s. Your blog name: The Banana Reader. / www.thebananareader.

Or that has NOTHING to do with your niche. Example:

You blog about Cars. Your blog name: Justin Tells you. / www.justintellsyou.

I personally would suggest to choose a name that has something to do with your niche. So when your readers see the URL or hear the name, they will know what the niche is. But again, whatever works for you. You can see that I chose a name that does have something to do with my content. It’s not so straight like the banana example but everything that I write or is on my blog is: inspired by the view that I had. ( Meaning mountains but also insights and thoughts.) conclusion: I would say that both ways work.

DO: write your idea’s down. Writing it down will help you choose.

So now lets say you chose your blog name.

Web Hosting

Step 3: Hosting Provider

Your Hosting Provider is the ‘’people’’ who keep your website going, live and working.
When your website isn’t working, they will make sure it will be up again and way more geeky things.
Your website/name will also be provided by them. Also known as your Domain name/URL. So in my case that’s www.inspiredbytheview.com.

I feel like the part where I was stuck at was which Hosting Provider to choose. there are so many options. I read a lot of article’s about every kind of hosting provider and back then I ended up choosing Siteground ( no regrets)

Siteground has a lot of good reviews. Like – a lot. After doing my own research I chose Siteground. Here are the reasons why you should choose Siteground too, if you decide to start a blog.

  • Siteground is just €3,95 a month. (excl. vat.) (regular price =9.95 €/MO.)
  • Siteground is worldwide.
  • Siteground has a GREAT 24/7 live chat.
  • They actually care.
  • You get a Free SLL Certificate. (a secured link between a website and someone’s else their browser. Very important.)
  • Self-hosted ( great for monetizing your blog)
  • GDPR Compliant
  • Free WordPress transfers
  • Siteground supports WordPress.
  • They actually know what they’re doing.

They have 3 plans:

  • Start up
  • Grow big
  • Go Geek

Blog, Siteground, Inspired by the View

I will suggest you to choose START UP:

  • One website
  • 10 GB Web space
  • 10.000 visits monthly
  • Free site transfer
  • Free app installs
  • Free email accounts
  • Unmetered traffic
  • Free SSLs & HTTP/2
  • Cpanel & SSH
  • Free website builder
  • SSD Storage
  • 30 Days money back
  • Free auto daily Back ups

  • (for €14,95 excl vat. you have your Domain name)

So just for €3,95 a month you have a Hosting Provider that you can trust and can rely on. For Real.

So if you want to start a blog and need a host: click here.

Step 4: WordPress

So now that you have your Domain name and Hosting Provider its time for the real fun. Get your creative self out because now its time for your Theme. WordPress has some free nice simple blog themes but you can also buy Premium theme’s. I personally used Envato Market > Theme forest.

Envato Market > Themeforest has so much to choose from. You can choose what kind of theme you are looking for. In this case choose Blog but feel free to look at the other categories too. A blog doesn’t have to look like a ”blog”. Be creative, choose what you think will look great. You can also filter so you will find exactly what you are look for. I suggest to choose a Theme that has a lot of sales and at least 3 stars. I also suggest a theme that is SEO Optimized. Also, read some reviews, take a look at the live preview and make sure it’s recently updated / does updates.

here is the link to Envato Market.

The price for a theme is most likely  between 10 – 60. You can make it as inexpensive or expensive as you want.

If you chose Envato Market – Themeforest and need to upload your theme to WordPress here is how:

Download your theme/file on Envato Market – ThemeForest

Go to WordPress > Appaerance > Theme’s > Add New > Upload Theme > Upload File > (Choose the Zip File )> Upload. It should say Theme installed successfully. Now click Activate.

BAM there ya go. You have your theme.

DO:

You can customize it now! WordPress > appearance > Customize

Step 5: First post

So now its time to write your first post! Go to WordPress > Posts > Add New.

DO: Now go and write!
